- People with Sickle Cell Anemia and regular anemia will often feel tired all the time. This is because red blood cells carry oxygen, and if blood vessels are blocked, then there is a lack of oxygen in the clogged organs and tissues.
- They will often appear pale because since there is a lack of blood cells, the blood will be drawn away from the skin and to the brain to keep it functioning.
- People with Sickle Cell Anemia will suddenly start to experience pain. This is called a pain crisis. This happens because the blood vessels become blocked caused by the sickle cells clumping together. Oxygen cannot get past the blocked blood vessels so there is a lack of oxygen. This causes pain in the area with no oxygen.
